Pakistan-Based Conspiracy Behind Pahalgam Baisaran Terror Attack, NIA Names Hafiz Saeed in Supplementary Chargesheet
The National Investigation Agency has named Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed in its supplementary chargesheet over the deadly Pahalgam Baisaran terror attack, alleging that the conspiracy was orchestrated from Pakistan with support from cross-border handlers, digital communication networks, and local collaborators.
In documents submitted before the Special Court in Jammu, the NIA has named Hafiz Saeed as an individual accused. The agency has also identified him as the head of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliate, The Resistance Front (TRF). He has been charged under serious offences, including terrorism, waging war against India, and criminal conspiracy.
The investigation revealed that the entire operation was meticulously planned and coordinated. The terrorists were allegedly provided with secure hideouts, weapons, advanced communication facilities, and location-specific intelligence by handlers based in Pakistan. The NIA stated that scientific examination, electronic evidence, and material collected from the crime scene established the existence of the cross-border terror network.
The supplementary chargesheet further states that the identities of the three Pakistani terrorists involved in carrying out the attack had already been established. One of the terrorists was later killed during a security forces operation. The local accused arrested during the investigation have been charged with providing shelter, food, and other logistical assistance to the terrorists while deliberately withholding this information from the security agencies.
According to the NIA, the terrorists spent several hours at the residence of a local individual a day before the attack. During their stay, they consumed food, concealed their weapons, and discussed the movement and deployment of security forces. Investigators also recovered mobile phone chats and location data that confirmed continuous communication between the terrorists and handlers based in Pakistan. Digital evidence extracted from the seized mobile devices played a crucial role in reconstructing the entire conspiracy behind the attack.
The agency has further alleged that the terrorists deliberately targeted tourists on the basis of their religion. The chargesheet states that the objective of the attack extended beyond causing fatalities and was intended to spread fear and incite communal tension across the country. According to the NIA, the operation was directed from Pakistan, with Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front jointly planning and facilitating the execution of the attack.
The inclusion of Hafiz Saeed in the supplementary chargesheet marks a significant development in the investigation, reinforcing the agency's claim that the Pahalgam Baisaran terror attack was part of a cross-border conspiracy involving Pakistan-based terrorist leadership, coordinated logistical support, digital communication networks, and local collaborators working in tandem to execute the deadly assault.
